ABS discusses the future of Decarbonisation at SMM Digital 2021


ABS participated in three sessions focused on sustainability during this year’s virtual SMM conference.

ABS Senior Vice President, Global Business Development and Global Marine, John McDonald started the week by speaking on a panel at the Tradewinds Shipowners Forum. Titled “Building a Bridge to the Future” the panel analysed both the short-term and longer-term choices for shipowners and shipyards as we move toward a low carbon world.Keeping with the sustainability message, ABS also spoke on the same day at the Offshore Dialogue Conference, on the panel “Using the Oceans”. ABS Senior Vice President of Global Offshore, Matthew Tremblay presented on “Wind Farms from a Class Perspective,” discussing how ABS remains at the forefront of technology innovation for the growing floating offshore wind industry. For ABS’s final session the panel topic was “Towards 2050 and beyond: the search for alternative fuels”. This panel was part of the Global Maritime Environmental Congress and the ABS participant was Georgios Plevrakis, Director of Global Sustainability. The panel covered topics such as green technology, the development of alternative fuels including hydrogen, ammonia, etc. technologies that will help meet the 2050 net zero target and carbon neutral versus zero carbon future for shipping.
