Marlink wins Smart4Sea Cyber Security Award

We are pleased to announce that Marlink has received the 2021 SMART4SEA Cyber Security Award for its Cyber Detection service. Thank you for your votes and support!

The win, achieved through public voting after being shortlisted by a jury, recognises Marlink as an organisation that provides a significant achievement or contribution to cyber security in shipping. Marlink’s nomination focused on the robust network monitoring that our Cyber Detection solution provides to mitigate cyber threats and its intuitive dashboard and alert system. This award is another confirmation of the importance of detecting, blocking and alerting about cyber threats, which has also been highlighted in the 4th Edition of “The Guidelines on Cyber Security Onboard Ships” published jointly by BIMCO and several major maritime organisations in December 2020.

At a virtual award ceremony on Wednesday 17th February, Marlink’s President Maritime, Tore Morten Olsen received the award on behalf of Marlink and delivered this speech:

He stated: “We are very pleased to receive the award for the Cyber Security solutions that Marlink has brought to market. This is very visible also in the marketplace, where cyber security is much higher on the agenda; and we also see targets directly impacting the maritime industry today. The award is much appreciated by Marlink, and we would like to thank all that had voted for us for us to have this recognition.”

This isn’t the first time Marlink has been recognised for its connectivity and solutions. Marlink also received the SMART4SEA Connectivity Award in 2019 and the SMART4SEA Innovation Award for its telemedicine solution in 2017. Before taking a firm commitment, interested customers may trial the Cyber Detection service under real conditions inspecting their vessels’ satellite traffic.

About Cyber Detection:

Marlink’s Cyber Detection service scans network traffic for any sophisticated, targeted threats that may be putting the confidentiality and continuity of business operations at risk. All outbound and inbound network traffic is monitored around the clock, while customers can view threats affecting their vessels through the intuitive, web-based Cyber Dashboard.

Notifications on critical threats may be configured to be received by email and/or SMS. Each alert clearly states the affected vessel, scope and recommended counter-measures to resolve the threat.

As a complement, our ITLink service enables shipping companies to develop, test and deploy IT solutions fleet-wide. This framework can extend from operating system patches or upgrades to applications and even complete ERP systems. This enables owners to transfer tasks away from crew towards specialists onshore who can develop and implement the programs they need, test them for robustness and share them across a fleet with a single click.
