The Economist’s World Ocean Summit 2021 is going virtual with the theme ‘accelerating a sustainable ocean economy’

MSC is proud to be part of the 2021 agenda focused on accelerating solutions to create a sustainable ocean economy. The five-day event, hosted by The Economist, is engaging government, business and civil society leaders in meaningful, action-oriented discussions around transforming ocean-based sectors and ecosystems to safeguard the health of the oceans while continuing to develop vital economies. The event presents 30 hours of highly curated content in the form of plenary sessions and panel discussions covering six dedicated tracks: aquaculture, fishing, energy, plastics, shipping, and tourism.

Bud Darr, Executive Vice President, MSC Group, participates in the opening panel of the shipping track on 2 March at 13:00 CET. The session seeks to explore if short-term actions enable the shipping sector to decarbonise in the long term. The panellists will discuss whether sufficient measures are being taken to reach the loftier IMO target to reduce emissions by at least 50% by 2050 and where the gaps and opportunities lie. Charles Goddard, Editorial Director of The Economist Group and Executive Director, World Ocean Initiative welcomes Bud together Johannah Christensen, Managing Director, Global Maritime Forum and Christopher Rex, Head of Innovation and Research, Danish Ship Finance to share their insights on the topic.
