Marlink reports a strong close to 2020 as Land VSAT traffic volume and installations spike

Bounceback in activity following early 2020 lockdowns saw enterprise user demand soar for high capacity, low latency network solutions

Marlink, the leading provider of smart network solutions, saw traffic from enterprise customers increase by 68% between January and December, with new customer contracts driving record installation numbers.

The 185 new VSAT sites installed in the fourth quarter for major operators in IGO, NGO and energy sectors included provision of high capacity, lower latency services from Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and stationary GEO satellite constellations. The growth in the installed base brought to more than 1500 active Land VSAT installations provided by Marlink Enterprise and through partners.

The installations last year alone represented data traffic of more than 3.2 Gbps from VSAT including a 200mbps MEO-based installation for a large energy customer operating onshore Mozambique, installed in fourth quarter 2020.

After a significant drop in installations in the spring, Marlink Field Engineers together with the company’s extensive network of Field Service Partners were once again active from June 2020, observing local health restrictions to work through the backlog of deliveries and installations.

The delivery delays, increased shipping expenses and higher travel costs caused by COVID meant we had to change the way we work. A prompt adaption by our teams was made to overcome the situation by re-organising and structuring our projects for a more efficient delivery and the results are clear to see,” says Alexandre de Luca, President, Enterprise, Marlink. “Our committed people in delivery and operations functions, project management, logistics, operations and field engineers, network operations and service desk have all contributed to these remarkable milestones which demonstrate Marlink’s commitment to business continuity and customer satisfaction.

Marlink’s leading position in design, delivery and management of Smart Network Solutions, is based on its intelligent hybrid network, combining global satcoms and terrestrial connectivity technologies with software-defined routing (SD-WAN) and optimised cloud access. With its Managed Services approach, Marlink proactively takes responsibility for integrating everything, from handling customers’ critical connectivity and data, to IT, IoT and OT services including the most advanced Cyber Security and Network Services.
