Keyworker seafarers – regional webinar for Arab States and Mediterranean

The latest regional webinar focusing on the crew change crisis has been held for the Arab States and Mediterranean (22 December).  The virtual meeting was addressed by eight panelists drawn from across the maritime industry. The aim was to share and identify best practices for universal application.

Member States from the region and other relevant government agencies and stakeholders involved in crew changes participated in the regional webinar.

IMO’s representatives highlighted the latest developments, including the UN General Assembly resolution calling on countries to designate seafarers as key workers (read more here) and the published list of countries which have made this designation (read more here).

Other speakers reiterated the need for the whole of government approach in addressing the issues related to crew change and repatriation. All stakeholders including diplomatic missions were urged to cooperate and collaborate.
