Wintershall Dea COO Dawn Summers elected President of Gasnaturally

- Summers assumes the role on 1st January 2021
- Aims to work with all members on tackling current and future challenges
Dawn Summers, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Europe’s largest independent gas and oil producer Wintershall Dea, was elected new President of GasNaturally with a majority of votes. She succeeds Marco Alverà, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Italian gas infrastructure company Snam Spa. GasNaturally is a partnership of eight European associations that represent the whole gas value chain (Eurogas, IOGP, GERG, GIE, IGU, NGVA, Liquid Gas Europe, Marcogaz).
“I am delighted in the trust the members of GasNaturally have placed in me and look forward to working with all of you at this crucial point in time. Tackling climate change whilst at the same time, continuing to provide energy for the world is humankind’s biggest challenge. With a variety of innovative technologies, the gas sector is well-equipped to contribute to the future and the vision of a climate neutral Europe”, said Dawn Summers.
As a dedicated team player and communicator, Ms Summers intends to work closely with all member associations of GasNaturally and represent the whole European gas sector. “I strongly believe that we need to speak with one voice to be able to guide the gas sector through these important years of transformation. We are part of the solution.”
Important legislative decisions will be made in Brussels in 2021. Ms Summers will advocate for gas to play a key role in reaching 2030 targets and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The gas sector offers innovative and cost-effective solutions on the way to climate neutrality, with both decarbonised and renewable gases, she argues. However, only a technology-neutral approach will unlock the sector’s full potential in Europe.
Dawn Summers has been the COO of Wintershall Dea since 1 June 2020 and is responsible for Europe, Middle East and North Africa. She has more than 25 years of international experience in the gas and oil sector, including with BP, Genel Energy, Origin Energy and Beach Energy.
