UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson committed to investing £20m in clean maritime technology and research projects to develop zero-emission ships

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has laid out his plans for a new Green Industrial Revolution.

In his 10 point plan he has committed to investing £20m in clean maritime technology and research projects to develop zero-emission ships.

Reacting to the announcement, Chamber CEO Bob Sanguinetti said:

“We welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement of extra investment into the UK shipping and maritime sector to help it become even greener.

“We look forward to seeing greater collaboration between government, industry and academia in the UK, and call on government to support the shipping industry’s plans for a $5bn international research and development fund to develop new, clean fuels. As the shipping industry commits to new short term measures to cut carbon emissions, we will continue working with the government and industry partners to ensure the UK becomes a world leader in green maritime technology.”
