Thessaloniki Port Authority sets up subsidiary in Sofia, linking via rail to Europe

November 16, 2020

The Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTh SA) founded a subsidiary in Sofia, Bulgaria “that will expand the hinterland and improve the connectivity of the port of Thessaloniki,” it said on Thursday.

According to OLTh, ThPA Sofia EAD’s dry port will be located at the Illienci area of Sofia and be directly linked to the Thessaloniki port by rail.

The new dry port will also link up with dry ports in SE, East and Central Europe, boosting the export activities of multiple companies.

OLTh said it established its subsidiary as part of its development strategy for the port of Thessaloniki and its upgrade into a sea gate for the region.

“Our purpose is solely the provision of reliable, modern and competitive services of combined transport to our clientele, and our company’s game-changing contribution in creating conditions of growth in Greece,” OLTh Executive President Athanassios Liagos said.
