Thome Group wins Safety4Sea Tanker Operator Award

The Thome Group is delighted to announce that it has won the Safety4Sea Tanker Operator Award, which was announced during a virtual ceremony on 20th October 2020.

The win is particularly pleasing as it was awarded to the ship operator of oil, chemical or gas tankers that demonstrated “above average safety excellence and performance.”

The Thome Group was included in a shortlist of other prestigious tanker operators with the final decision based on an industry vote where maritime professionals were invited to choose their preferred tanker operator based on whom they felt had focused on safety, quality and crew health.

Commenting on the award win Mr. Olav Nortun, Thome Group’s CEO, said:
“I am delighted that the Thome Group has won this award as the tanker sector is a very important part of our ship management business. This win recognises our commitment to ensuring our crew are properly trained and understand their roles and responsibilities while prioritising safety at all times. It is particularly pleasing that as it comes at a time when COVID-19 has placed extra strain on our organisation and operations, especially with regards to seafarer changeovers which were practically impossible at the height of the pandemic. It is a tribute to our seafarers who have coped with the additional burdens brought about by new protocols to keep everyone safe and also to the remote, normally office based, colleagues who are always there to support”
