The Food Safety and Hygiene Course is being conducted by OSM CATERING ACADEMY since 2014, a mandatory training for all catering crew in OSM. While Nutrition and Health Awareness course is being conducted since 2018, also a compulsory training for all catering crew. Both trainings were created to align with the Maritime Labor Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) – Regulation 3.2 – Food and Catering.
With the evolution of training delivery, these courses were converted into e Learning and virtual classes. Recently, OSM Maritime Leaders Academy (MLA) offered both courses to MAERSK DRILLING for their Angolan catering crew. Challenge accepted as both courses were converted in Portuguese.
The virtual class was conducted by Chef Mary Grace A. Odero of OSERV Catering with an English-Portuguese translator present during the virtual class conduction. Language, time zone and culture differences were not a hindrance in delivering quality ¬¬¬trainings that would enhance and update the food safety knowledge and nutrition and health awareness for our food service professionals.
Participants were impressed with how the course was conducted. One even mentioned that the course was excellent, and the instructor was very welcoming and that they have learned a lot. They look forward for more courses like this.
