Dorthe Scherling Nielsen joins Hempel on 1 October to lead the company’s ambitious sustainability work.

Sustainability is a central pillar in Hempel. The company has a stated desire to lead the coatings industry in the sustainability space. To drive this goal forward, Hempel has appointed Dorthe Scherling Nielsen as Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs.
Katarina Lindström, Group Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, comments: “I’m very pleased to welcome someone of Dorthe’s calibre to the team. Hempel is on an exciting sustainability journey, not just internally but also externally. We want to do even more to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and work with governments, academia and other organisations to set an ambitious sustainability agenda for the industry. Dorthe is the ideal person to lead this work.”
Dorthe has extensive experience within sustainability and government affairs and has held leading positions at a number of companies, including Vestas, Nike and Bestseller.
As Head of Hempel’s Sustainability and Government Affairs team, Dorthe will lead the development and implementation of Hempel’s global sustainability and government affairs agendas, with primary focus on Hempel’s value chain and a more proactive approach to government affairs.
Dorthe comments: “I’m pleased and excited to be joining Hempel at this time. Coatings are essential to sustainability as they extend the useful lifetime of structures, buildings, equipment and other assets, and reduce maintenance requirements. This helps companies lower their carbon footprint. Hempel has a clear desire to make an even bigger difference, and I’m happy to be part of that work.”
