Cost efficiency boost with online training according to Hernik Jensen of Danica

The Covid-19 situation forces us all to find new ways of working and delivering services. In some case this experience turns out to be a positive one.

When the pandemic hit our traditional classroom training services came to a standstill. However, as crew changes began to pick up again, the training requirements of joining crew members had to be delivered in a safe way.

Initially we turned to Skype to deliver training sessions to the crew. Crew members welcomed this solution as they did not have spend time travelling and days away from their families to attend the traditional classroom training at our premises. At the same time there is a financial saving to be made as there are no travel and lodging expenses for attending the online training.

We are currently reviewing our entire training concept and in the future we plan to offer pure online self-study courses and online courses with an instructor, in addition to some traditional classroom courses for subjects which are mainly skill training and need physical attendance – such as welding.. Some of our courses will be blended courses, combining several training methods.

Scientific studies show that online self-study and online courses led by an instructor prove to be a more efficient learning method. This is because the trainees concentrate more when they are bound to a monitor compared to those sitting with a group in a classroom where they can be disturbed by other trainees. Studies also shows that online trainees are more motivated because they are able to attend the training at a flexible, more convenient time.

We will keep you updated with information about our new training regime.
