Tallink to offer additional cruises from Riga to Helsinki and Åland Islands in August and September 2020

Today Tallink Grupp has announced that in August and September 2020 it will make two additional special Friday cruises to Helsinki and the Åland islands, operated with the company’s vessel Romantika and offering a wide range of entertainment on board and taking customers to destinations that are so popular among both Latvian and Finnish travellers this summer.

The additional cruises will be operated on 21 August on the route Riga – Helsinki – Riga and on 4 September on the route Riga – Mariehamn – Riga. “In response to the positive feedback from our customers, we have decided to add two more cruises to Helsinki and the Åland islands with the ship Romantika into our cruise calendar. The cruises have been specifically planned to depart on Fridays, so passengers can enjoy short weekend trips in our very own Baltic sea region,” said Hillard Taur, CEO of Tallink Latvia. In total, Tallink offers 3 additional special cruise trips from Riga to Helsinki and 2 to the Åland Islands.

The Åland Islands are ideal for travellers on bicycles, scooters or even electric scooters, which is a very convenient way to discover the island’s beautiful natural landscapes and leisurely pace of life. This type of travel experience has already become popular among Tallink passengers. Travelers will also find interesting leisure opportunities in Helsinki. The company’s vessel Romantika offers an exciting and versatile recreation programme for both adults and children on board. “We are pleased to offer new and hopefully unforgettable experiences to our passengers when travelling with Tallink. August and September are very good months for maritime trips, so that everyone still has the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable holiday even this year,” Taur added.

Special cruises from Riga will take place according to the following schedule:

  • 7 August Riga – Helsinki – Riga
  • 10 August Riga – Åland Islands – Riga
  • 21 August Riga – Helsinki – Riga
  • 28 August Riga – Helsinki – Riga
  • 4 September Riga – Åland Islands – Riga

In June and July, more than 77,000 passengers and 4,000 vehicles were carried on the new routes to Helsinki and the Åland Islands. More than 3,500 hotel nights have been booked, indicating a clear interest in enjoying longer holidays at the destinations. About 40% of Tallink’s travellers are between the ages of 35 and 55, followed by young people and seniors – 17% and 13% respectively.

Tickets for the Romantika cruises can be purchased from today, 30 July 2020 on the website www.tallink.lv.

In August, Tallink will additionally continue to operate special trips on the route Riga – Stockholm – Riga once per week, which takes place in accordance with the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 360 of Republic of Latvia. Only persons needing to travel for business reasons between the two countries may travel on these special departures at present. The employer or employee will have to prove to the transport company that the travel is for business purposes.
