IRI participates in officers’ webinar forum

IRI/The Marshall Islands Registry participated in an officers’ webinar forum hosted by Springfield Shipping Company (Springfield Shipping) on 29 May and 5 June 2020.

During this unprecedented situation resulting from COVID-19, Springfield Shipping, with a practical and pragmatic approach, is staying in close contact with its people (both ashore and on board the ships). It continues training with virtual visits onboard and Officers’ Forums, towards its Safety Management System and culture improvement. The RMΙ Registry has been a strong supporter of this effort.

More than 80 frontline shipboard and shoreside personnel attended the forum, including senior officers, engineers, and petty officers. The forum’s keynote speaker was Captain Theodore Lalas, Fleet Operations Manager from the Registry’s Piraeus office, who discussed port State control issues, including the most common deficiencies and reasons for detentions. Other topics included COVID-19 medical updates, fleet safety performance, behavioral updates, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 Table Top Exercise, exhaust gas cleaning systems, ballast water treatment systems, the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships Annex VI, SHELL MPiS -Reflecting Learning / Resilience modules, the inventory of hazardous materials, cybersecurity, navigation, purchasing matters, and an analysis of its Seafarers’ Well-being Survey.
