SEAHARMONY introduce main engine inspection camera

Main engine inspection camera is an automatic photographic device used to capture the innermost components of a ship’s engine. In simpler terms, it is a camera that makes it possible to inspect closed-off parts (e.g., a ship’s cylinders) without opening up the engine. The device provides a 360-degree view, meaning a thorough inspection can be conducted.

In addition to the main engine cylinder, the gadget can also be used to inspect exhaust valves and combustion chambers. Expertly engineered and designed with cutting-edge technology, the device requires no controller or cooling gel pack. Additionally, it consumes power more efficiently in comparison to other maritime equipment in its class.

Key Features

Here are some major features of the gadget:

  1. It is very portable, with dimensions of 215mm X 74mm X 25mm. Even with batteries fitted, the device weighs only about 350g.
  2. The device is resistant to heat (with an upper limit of 70°C), and it is designed to work without a cooling jet pack.
  3. The gadget comes with an internal memory of 8GB, enough to hold approx. 9,000 images. Captured images can be transferred to a PC via USB.
  4. The device has a continuous run time of over 90 minutes, and the camera has a lighting range of over 980mm.
  5. Four rechargeable AA NiMH batteries power the device.

How the Gadget Benefits Shipowners

Typically, to inspect a ship’s cylinder, you need to remove the cover of the combustion chamber. Then a ladder has to be lowered into the chamber, and a worker inspects it manually. In addition to being time-consuming, this procedure is also not very effective. Furthermore, after the inspection and re-assembly, a test-run may be required to ensure that nothing was broken during the process.

By leveraging the gadget instead, shipowners stand to enjoy the following:

  1. The photographic device can be placed on a piston, removing the need to open up the engine. In just one round of piston movement, the camera can capture detailed images that show what’s happening in the combustion chamber.
  2. Using the gadget reduces the human resources needed to conduct a thorough check, making it possible to schedule more frequent inspections.
  3. By conducting more checks, shipowners can keep a record of how each cylinder’s condition changes over time. This makes it easier to notice faults and signs of failure. Subsequently, maintenance can be scheduled quickly to fix the problems.

This novel gadget further underlines our commitment, at SEAHARMONY, to deliver the most innovative and cost-effective maritime technologies to our clients. This particular device reduces the risk of engine overhaul while saving time, money, and manpower. For enquiries, please contact sales@seaharmony.co.uk.
