Hackers transmit coronavirus via e-mail

March 27, 2020

American specialists on cyber security Proofpoint state that the shipping is a target for a new group of hackers. Intruders send e-mails with files containing “important information” about coronavirus.

According to foreign mass media, after the disclosure of the enclosed file, harmful software AZORult is installed on the user’s computer. This software can steal user’s data such as: passwords, information from files, browsing history, accounting information etc.

Seafarersjournal portal with reference to American specialists state that all computers, on which Microsoft Office hasn’t been updated since November 2017, are subject to such a threat.

Proofpoint representatives have advised all the shipping companies and ships crews to treat any electronic messages, links and sites, including those about coronavirus, with extra care.
