In the context of Black and Caspian Sea Project, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) awarded Environmental Protection Engineering (EPE) for the provision of Oil pollution, Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC) training to European Neighbouring Partner (ENP) countries’ OPRC national staff centres.

The project started with the delivery of OPRC Level 1 – First Responders and OPRC Level 2 – Supervisors/On-scene commanders training courses to Georgia’s National Oil Spill Response Mechanism members. Representatives from the National Authority, National oil spill response teams and Harbour Masters of the Georgian Ports had the opportunity to familiarise with the oil spill response techniques and comprehend the principles of the incident command system, the legal and compensation regimes and the contingency planning process. All main aspects of operational preparedness and emergency management procedures have been tested and evaluated by EPE’s highly qualified and experienced instructors through theoretical and practical exercises in order to identify areas for further enhancement and development.

OPRC accredited training courses are equivalent to IMO Model Courses and internationally recognised in the oil spill protection, preparedness and response field. Such initiatives aim to assist National Authorities to reinforce their knowledge base, strengthen their response capacity and comply with marine environment protection standards.
