Managers of the Greek Flag bulk carrier “Ore Sudbury” report that the vessel suffered a fire close to the accommodation area, deck 3, at approximately 2100 hrs on November 21, local time which was extinguished by the designated crew firefighting teams on board, some 4 hours later.

The 154,552 GT vessel is currently anchored some 20 nautical miles off Guaiba Island Terminal, Brazil.

It is with great sadness that we must report the death of our much- valued Greek Master who was found in his cabin once the fire was extinguished; his family have been notified and are being supported. All our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his next of kin, family and friends at this tragic time.

The “Ore Sudbury” remains in a stable condition and anchored in position.

No further injuries or pollution have been reported.

Managers will be carrying out a full investigation into the incident and are working with all involved authorities to secure the vessel and arrange for repairs.
