Tallinn Shipyard – winner of the prestigious 2019 SAFETY4SEA EUROPORT Award

Tallinn Shipyard, one of BLRT Grupp`s repair yards, has won an award at the prestigious 2019 international SAFETY4SEA EUROPORT Awards for emphasising on every safety aspect, such as improving working conditions, acquiring the necessary equipment, developing infrastructure, preventing production risks and implementing environmental projects.

On 7 November in the Netherlands, the honorary award was presented to Tallinn Shipyard. The event was held in the Rotterdam Ahoy exhibition venue.
Tallinn Shipyard is the first company in the Baltic states to be awarded such a prominent prize, which is given to organisations that effectively implement risk minimisation and safety programs.
Andrejus Babachinas, Head of BLRT Repair Yards, commented on the triumph of the Tallinn Shipyard team. “It is a great honour for us to receive this award, especially if we take into account the other esteemed nominees in this category. We are very pleased that the efforts Tallinn Shipyard and BLRT Grupp have been making in meeting customer needs have been recognised. The presence of the necessary equipment and infrastructure at the shipyard contributes to our ability to repair and modernise ships. Our strategy and investments in the development of ship servicing affirms the correctness and timeliness of the decisions we have made. We are fortunate to have top professionals working at our shipyard.”
He also expressed confidence that security is foremost. It is related to the people who work and visit the companies of the group, as well as the environment and ecology as a whole.
“Among other things, BLRT Grupp shipyards in Estonia, Lithuania and Finland implement environmental projects, such as the installation of scrubbers and ballast water treatment systems. Tallinn Shipyard has installed test equipment that allows staff members to be trained in the use of ballast water treatment systems when installing them on ships, and to demonstrate to customers the capabilities of the technological solution used. Overall, the group invests significantly in expanding its activities. We remember that expansion should always bring added value to both customers and staff, and be environmentally friendly,” concluded the Head of BLRT Repair Yards.
The SAFETY4SEA EUROPORT Awards is being held for the fourth consecutive year. Tallinn Shipyard was nominated by closed voting by ship-owners and ship operators, as well as other industry experts. The winner was determined by online voting.
This year, Tallinn Shipyard was nominated for the award along with other large companies, such as Blohm + Voss, Damen Shipyards, Meyer Turku and Turku Repair Yard.
