The Award is given to companies which regularly participate in the United States Coast Guard’s Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) system, offering their assistance to search and rescue coordinators. The AMVER system, which is a voluntary ship reporting system, allows vessels’ positions to be plotted so that the closest to an emergency can be diverted to respond. Only those vessels sending their location to the AMVER system for a minimum of 128 days in a calendar year are eligible for the Award.

Columbia’s ships have joined others from around the world in providing this essential global safety network – a truly valuable service to the shipping industry. Columbia’s QSHE Manager/ DPA Captain Mark Constantine received the awards on behalf of CSM from the US Ambassador.
